More than 8,000 km long (including man-made walls and natural moats/barriers), built by approximately 800,000 people over a period of 2000 years, the Great Wall was erected with the intention of serving as a shield

The first emperor who unified China – Qin Shi Huang (259 BC-210 BC), linked the city wall works built previously, then continued to build the city wall into a unified strip.

The Secret of `Genghis Khan’s Wall`

That’s what history records.

`Before our research was published, most people thought that the purpose of this 8,000 km wall was to stop Genghis Khan’s army. However, when the Northern Line was completely mapped

Centuries earlier, a wall had been built on the north side.

Unlike the famous stone wall built during the Ming Dynasty, the Northern Line was built from a mound of earth and used compression techniques, so it became very stiff.

In the north there is a ditch about 2 meters deep, which, according to archaeological experts, was probably dug to clear land for construction.

Based on radiocarbon dating, the team believes that the wall was built between 1000 and 1100, meaning it predates the birth of Genghis Khan, around 1162.

`The Northern Line allowed the Chinese emperors to control the movement of the Mongols.  The wall would allow China to control the number of Mongols coming in and out, or taxing them when they entered China` – Gideon Shelach-

Although unrelated to Genghis Khan, this Northern Line is called `Genghis Khan’s Wall` – a reference to the legendary Mongol conqueror.

Thousand year project

In the 13th century, after becoming the Mongol Khan, Genghis Khan became a name that caused fear not only in China, but in many countries across the Eurasian region.

The fear of the Chinese people became a real nightmare one day in 1211 when Genghis Khan brought troops to northern China to massively attack and quickly captured the capital in 1215, establishing a

Construction of the Great Wall, divided into sections totaling thousands of kilometers in length, first began in the 3rd century BC and continued for centuries to come.

China’s new dynasty, the Ming Dynasty (after the fall of the Yuan Dynasty, which existed from 1368 to 1644) continued to build/strengthen the Great Wall in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The giant wall built by the Ming Dynasty is best preserved to this day.

During more than 2000 years of construction, the Great Wall witnessed the fall of hundreds of thousands of people during construction, making it the `longest cemetery in the world`.
